Like brass, copper is a material with very good electrical and thermal conductivity. Alongside silver and gold, it is one of the first metals ever used by humans and has a long history. An entire period, the Copper Age, was even named after this material. This popularity can probably be attributed to its ease of processing. Copper is very malleable and can be easily moulded when hot. Its appearance is typical of copper: it is orange-reddish and therefore, apart from gold, the only metallic element with colour.
Due to its excellent conductive properties, copper is mainly used in electrical engineering. There it is used in power cables and broadband network cables. Firstly because it is the best electrical conductor and secondly because it has low resistance and does not burn or melt in the event of fire. Copper is also often used for visual reasons: lamps, tables and candlesticks have long been made from this decorative material.
