What are the advantages of steel tubes?

Are steel tubes corrosion-resistant?

Untreated steel tubes are generally susceptible to corrosion and should be properly protected when used outdoors. For applications exposed to moisture or weather conditions, galvanized steel tubes or stainless steel rectangular tubes are particularly suitable. Additional painting or powder coating can further enhance their resistance to corrosion.

Which standards apply to steel rectangular tubes?

Precision steel tubes and rectangular tubes are subject to standards such as EN 10305-5. This standard defines requirements for dimensions, shape tolerances, and the technical properties of cold-drawn precision steel tubes.

Are there seamless steel rectangular tubes?

The rectangular tubes offered by Metalxact are not seamless. They are manufactured from steel strip, welded, and subsequently cold-drawn. As a result, the profiles feature an internal or slightly visible longitudinal weld seam. However, the cold-drawing process significantly reduces and smooths the weld geometry. Seamless steel rectangular tubes are also available on the market, but they are considerably less common and generally more expensive than welded rectangular tubes. For most applications, welded and cold-drawn rectangular tubes represent the industry standard.
