What are the special features of U-channels?

U-channels are versatile metal profiles in a classic U-shape, consisting of two flanges and a web. They serve as edge trim, guides, or supports and are used in a wide variety of projects—from mechanical engineering to decorative applications. At MetalXact, you can get U-channels in standard sizes as well as custom-made and cut to your exact specifications.

✅ Configurable online with millimeter precision: outer width, web height, material thickness, and exact length
✅ Precise manufacturing tolerances ensure that the delivered profile fits perfectly
✅ A high-quality powder coating is available for all U-channels in over 1,500 colors!&

What materials are available for U-profiles?

For our aluminum U-profiles, we use high-quality aluminum alloys such as AlMgSi0.5, which are known for their excellent corrosion resistance and good mechanical properties. The material itself is lightweight, stable, and excellent for further processing—whether by drilling, sawing, or welding. This makes our profiles suitable for both load-bearing structures and visually demanding applications. In addition to aluminum, we also offer steel U-channels. These are particularly robust and are suitable wherever high load-bearing capacity and resistance to mechanical stress are required—such as in steel construction, heavy frame structures, or load-bearing substructures. We offer the alloys S235JR and S355J2.

What surface treatments are available?

Your U-profiles are available in either raw, anodized, or powder-coated finishes.

✅ Raw/unfinished aluminum

.... impresses with its neutral appearance. It is ideal for indoor use and for structural components in outdoor applications. The look of bare aluminum creates an industrial aesthetic: silver-gray, matte, and featuring a thin oxide layer that protects the metal from further oxidation.

✅ Anodized surfaces

...provide additional protection against corrosion and give the profile a sleek, uniform finish.

✅ Powder-coated U-channels

...offer a wide variety of colors and are particularly resistant to weathering—perfect for outdoor use or visible elements.

Our top buying tips for U-profiles

When selecting a profile, make sure to choose the correct web height and material thickness so that the profile meets your stability requirements. For outdoor use, we recommend anodized or powder-coated variants. Also take advantage of our millimeter-precise cutting service to avoid rework and efficiently complete your project. Custom sizes and small batches are also easily available. This saves you time-consuming rework on the construction site or in the workshop.

What are the applications of U-profiles?

Applications of aluminum U-profiles
Aluminum U-profiles stand out for their low weight combined with high stability, excellent corrosion resistance, and ease of machining. Compared to steel, they are ideal when an elegant, lightweight solution is required.
  • Construction and interior finishing: as edge protection, frames, or substructures
  • Window and door construction: as guide rails or trim strips
  • Machinery and plant engineering: for lightweight yet stable structures
  • Furniture and shopfitting: for clean finishes and modern designs

Thanks to their high dimensional stability, they are equally suitable for both functional and aesthetic applications.

Applications of Steel U-Channels:

If you require maximum load-bearing capacity, U-channels made of structural steel are an excellent choice – these can also be custom-made to your specifications.

  • Steel and hall construction: Used as load-bearing elements in roof and wall structures, beams, or frame constructions.
  • Mechanical and plant engineering: For stable machine frames, structures, supports, and guide constructions.
  • Vehicle and trailer construction: As frame profiles, reinforcements, and mounts for high loads.
  • Railing and staircase construction: For handrails, railing posts, and load-bearing components.
  • Racking and stage constructions: In storage systems and stage construction where high stability is required.
  • Renovation and refurbishment: For reinforcing wall openings, lintels, and door frames.
  • Heavy-duty applications: Wherever aluminum profiles reach their limits and maximum load capacity is required.

What dimensions are available?

Why are there no stainless steel U-channels at MetalXact?

Stainless steel is significantly more expensive than structural steel or aluminum. For many typical applications—such as edge finishes, frames, or substructures—the high corrosion resistance of stainless steel is not absolutely necessary. Anodized aluminum or galvanized steel often already provide sufficient protection at a much lower cost.
